Everyone says that twenty-four hours can change a person, and in my case, it’s changed my life. I’ve finally discovered why my dad was so hellbent on finding out what happened to his friend, knowing that it had to have something to do with him, and he was right.

Henry came up with an entire plan to make my dad suffer, while also framing him for his best friend's death. But we are still no closer to finding out why. What was the bigger picture? He had to gain something from getting him out of the way. He even went as far as to brainwash Hunter into hating his own godfather… but why?

I rub my bloodshot eyes as my brain plays all possible reasons through, trying to find any reason, no matter how small, why Henry would do this. I’ve been at this all night, unable to fall asleep until I find the missing piece.

Hunter kept asking me to say it, to say I love you, but I couldn’t. I just couldn’t say it.

“Why are you awake?” Hugo questions as he takes a seat on the table in front of me.

“I could ask you the same question.” I turn my attention out the window as the sun comes up over the horizon.

“Hunter. He figured you would want some space and sent me instead.”

Just his name says everything. Things between Hunter and I have been, hell, I don’t know what they’ve been. He asked for my heart, and for some reason, I won’t give it to him.

“What's going on in your head, Raven?” He taps my leg, trying to get my attention, but I refuse to look at him. Hugo has always been able to read me better than anyone else, and I’m afraid of what he might see in my eyes.

“I don’t know,” I whisper. My mind is so messed up, I don’t know how to just be at the moment.

“That’s what worries me.” Hugo chuckles humorously, looking towards the stairs for something before turning his attention back toward me. “Talking helps. Tell me everything going through your head right now.”

“It’s a big list.” I smile as he throws his back in laughter. I highly doubt this is going to be an easy conversation.

“Lay it on me, Raven.” Our eyes lock for a few moments before I sigh, knowing there is no way he is going to leave this alone.

I lost Noah, I lost my brother… but Hugo has always been the big brother I missed. Someone I can always talk to, someone I can trust having my back, someone I call my family.

“How did they know about the board? How long have the Frazers and Silvers been in business? Why make a move now and not while my dad was in prison? Who the fuck was stalking Aunt Mary? Why-”

“Stop.” Hugo moves some of the hair away from my face, and I smile. “We don’t have answers to all those questions, but there are four of us now. We’ll work on a plan together to get to the bottom of this.
